Indeed.
Iron. Your body needs it but to much can kill you.
Ya know.
Disclaimer:
I'm tired. It's been a looong five days. Kids are sleeping. I am not.
Tuesday Mary girl was not feeling well after school. She ate a snack and went to bed. Woke up at bedtime soaking wet. Drenched. Like she'd been standing outside in the rain.
What in the world? She sit's on the couch and starts bawling. She says it's the worst pain ever. Her back. Her head. Everything.
I give her some Advil. I figure it has to do w/ other things in her life I don't talk about here. I cuddle her all up on the sofa and we watch tv. She sleeps. I sleep.
She gets up and hour later, soaked, again. I get her a new shirt and while putting it on her she kinda starts twitching and falls over.
Freek out. Of corse I whop her on the side, Get the hell up!! She doesn't remember a thing.
I'm thinking ER at this point. I get some juice in her and off she goes back to sleep.
Ya, not me.
She wakes up in the morning for school and looks like .... BAD. Your staying home and we're going to the doctor.
Blood tests.
Doc calls the next day and says Mary's iron is a 6. Yea, thats right, SIX.
Oh SHIT!!
Ferratin 121. Just to be sure *wink*
Hey?! Didn't I just learn all about that, last month?!!
And her CBC was out of whack too.
When a doctor calls and tells you this, your kinda numb. When she continues with you need to get her to the hospital, now....
You freek the hell out!!!!!
So, thats just what I did.
I get her to OHSU/Doernbeckers in 34 minutes :) Go Momma!! We are in the ER for 8 hours.
OMG, tests. ALOT of tests. (I'm sure my ex will love it when he see's the bill for this one.)
They took ALOT of blood. Poor kid. They sent us for a chest xray.
"We're thinking TB they say."
WHAT? UMMMM? What did you say?
Finallly, after what seemed like F.O.R.E.V.E.R., some of the tests come back.
Nothing. Absolutly NOTHING.
Ummmm........ Hello! We just had a SIX iron level yesterday.
Today:
Iron 57
Ferratin 69
Make sence? Yea, I thought NOT, too.
We will go back to the doc on Thurs. for one more check. I'll take the two tests that match the closest and that will be the number. Right? Isn't that how you do it?
How did Brook save Sister you ask?
Her doc wanted to give her, a 150 lb girl, two tabs of iron, 130 mg, for a week and come back in for more blood. Hubby who takes 1 tab, 65mg, a day is 350 lbs. Brook who is a solid chunk at 45 lbs, takes 2.5 mg.
Something wasn't right there and I gave her none! NONE!!!
If it wasn't for Brooker just going through this last month, I wouldn't of done my research. Reasearch saves lives.
QUESTION AUTHORITY!!!
Thank you Brookster for, once again, saving someone's life. I love this kid!!
